Model Mugging

Model Mugging

Last year, and again this coming spring, Parker seniors will participate in IMPACT:  Model Mugging free of charge due to a generous grant from the Parker Essential Fund (PEF).  Parents and others who have participated in this program (offered to the community in the past for a fee) agreed that these skills were essential for our seniors to take with them as they leave Parker.  Without this funding from the PEF, most of our graduates would be unable to afford the individual cost of this program.  It is the hope of the Wellness Domain that this program becomes a "tradition" among our graduating classes through the continued generous funding of the PEF.

IMPACT:  Model Mugging teaches strategies for safe living.   The lessons taught in this three hour presentation are not intended to frighten anyone, but to educate and empower oneself on how to handle a variety of unexpected situations.  Students are taught to have “tools” available to use in case of an unexpected situation where they may be confronted by someone they know or don’t know – specifically, how to take control of uncomfortable, intimidating and/or physically threatening situations.  IMPACT: Model Mugging training focuses on real life situations and hands-on instruction. The workshops (gender separate) give personal safety techniques ranging from avoidance and verbal response to practicing physical techniques on the trademarked padded instructor.

For many graduating seniors, going off to deal with new challenges in college also means leaving a familiar and relatively safe environment of their home and community.  This IMPACT training has provided Parker seniors with the some of the skills necessary to help them deal with potentially dangerous situations, thanks to the PEF.
